Gas Meter Relocation Across the UK
If your gas meter is in the way of an extension, a new kitchen, a boundary change or a refurbishment, it can be moved. We plan the relocation, isolate the supply safely, reposition the meter and pipework, and reinstate everything afterwards — as one managed job rather than several separate trades.
What the work involves
- A site survey to confirm the existing supply, meter type and the new position
- Liaison with the gas transporter and your supplier where the relocation requires it
- Safe isolation and capping of the existing supply before any work starts
- Repositioning the meter, meter box and associated service pipework
- Purging, recommissioning and tightness testing on completion
- Making good and reinstating excavated ground or brickwork

Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to move a gas meter?
There is no single price. The cost depends on how far the meter is moving, whether excavation or new service pipework is required, the meter type and the site conditions. We survey first and then issue a fixed written quotation so you know the full cost before committing.
How long does a gas meter relocation take?
The physical works are often completed in a day for a short domestic move, but the overall timescale also depends on network approvals and available appointment dates. We give you an indicative programme with your quotation.
Can I move a gas meter myself?
No. Moving a gas meter or the service pipework feeding it must be carried out by suitably qualified and registered operatives. Attempting it yourself is dangerous and unlawful.
Will my gas supply be off while the meter is moved?
Yes, the supply is isolated while the work is carried out and recommissioned once tightness testing is complete. We tell you in advance roughly how long you will be without gas.
Ready to connect your property to the gas network?
Tell us about your site and we'll come back with a fixed, all-in quotation — no obligation, no jargon.
